La bonne aventure, 2011 Photo : Yan Giguère Since the end of the 80’s, Marie-Claude Bouthillier’s work has regularly been seen in solo and group exhibitions in both Quebec and abroad. Her pieces have been selected to be part of collective projects in institutions such as the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. The playful linguistic and formal connections between text and textile that she explores in her painting can be read between the lines of her pictorial research since its beginnings. She is interested in the representation of the artist in literature, a subject that has become the focus of many projects including Créatures at La Chambre Blanche in Québec in 2004 and Réponse à Zola, in 2006, in which she took on the role of the curator. She presented Apparitions, a solo exhibition, at Centre d’art et de diffusion Clark in 2008. In 2010, her project «Le Tarot de Montréal», exhibited at la Maison de la Culture du Plateau Mont-Royal, included inviting 22 artists to create work framed by the famous deck of cards. That same year, Dans le ventre de la baleine, was presented at Optica and her work was exhibited as part of Femmes artistes. L’éclatement des frontières, 1965-2000 / Œuvres de la collection du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. In 2011, she will present La bonne Aventure at la Centrale/Power house, an exhibition during which she will launch her deck of tarot cards titled Vie d’Artiste. Her work will also be shown at Galerie de l’UQAM in 2012 in the exhibition Loin des yeux près du corps, curated by Thérèse St-Gelais. She holds a Masters degree from Université du Québec à Montréal. Marie-Claude Bouthillier lives and works in Montreal
The artist would like to thank:
Atelier Clark and Conseil des arts du Canada.
For VIVA!, Marie-Claude Bouthillier invites the public into her pictorial environment La bonne aventure, to perform an interactive ritual similar to the reading of tarot. For more information or to make an appointement: http://www.lacentrale.org/
