gwendoline robin talks softly. in french. i missed much of what she said. and i may report my own misunderstandings. but here goes:
as i said gwendoline robin talks softly, quietly. the girl who works with pyro (fire and explosives) is uh…gentle. and matter of fact, grounded. no grand theories or social/political commentary, but rather, this came from that, and this is to construct that. sculptural concerns and spatial concerns and how to activate the space and how to employ sound. how to be.
and of course. how to avoid injury. the joy of working towards something that is waited for and then is over. in a flash. ephemeral. that she survives.
placing ones body at risk and not being harmed. constructing a sequence of events. knowing the materials. getting it right.
she showed us a video clip. a self portrait. failures to ignite her head explosives. cropped in close. just her head and the apparatus and the fuse. fizzles and fire and smoke and half explosions but never the completed bang. never the desired result. but she is acquiring information as to the exact conditions necessary. when the moment comes, it will be right.
